The Christian Union (CU) has played a vital role in SPC throughout the years. However, the CU may be unfamiliar to most of our schoolmates outside of it, so SCOPE is grateful to have had the Chairman — Jeremy Woo (5A) and Vice-Chairman — Sam Lau (5F) tell us about it.
The CU hopes to spread Christianity in SPC through a wide variety of events and activities. Jeremy adds that the CU also hopes to provide SPC Christians with a place to bond and get to know one another.
It goes without saying that the CU offers a plethora of activities. Aside from the annual Heritage, Carol, Easter and Thanksgiving services, it set up a stall for the Open Days and will even be hosting a joint-school Christmas celebration with St. Stephen’s Girls’ College. The CU also plans to hold general meetings that allow all schoolmates’ participation, and to restart lunch gatherings with its members, which unfortunately had to stop due to the pandemic.
How do its clearly-very-busy office bearers strike a balance between schoolwork and CU responsibilities? Jeremy and Sam agree that communication is the key. ‘Doing everything by ourselves would only overwhelm us,’ Jeremy explained, ‘so we find discussing and strategically delegating tasks to other officials the most efficient way to achieve a lot within a short span of time.’
Even though the CU is going well, Sam hopes to further promote it to our schoolmates. ‘I feel that some of us are reluctant to talk about Christianity, this shows that we aren’t communicating enough or spreading Christianity in a good way.’ This is something the CU plans to address.
