Seascape Mural

This mural was commissioned by my friend Captain Mike Halprin, owner and operator of the Seahorse Dive charter boat in Pompano Beach, Florida. It was painted on the wall in the dining room above the entrance to the kitchen of Mike and his wife Barbara's home.

After completing Divemaster training from PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) in the 1990's, I worked part time as a divemaster on Mike's dive boat. Mike commissioned me for several art projects including a 9'x5' mural above the dive deck and numerous dive briefing charts, some of which are showcased in this website. After running out of places on his boat to paint stuff I went over to his house and painted there.

Mike described what he envisioned and I came up with this concept sketch. After lying on my back like Michelangelo painting the large mural on his boat, this was to be a piece of cake... maybe. I had to balance 5 feet off the ground on a ladder. The upside was the lighting was good, there were no mosquitoes and Barbara made a mean spaghetti and meatballs. The one uncomfortable thing was Mike's dogs kept staring at me with critical eyes. Later I found out they just wanted dog treats and really didn't care what I was painting.

The finished mural was 9 feet wide and painted with acrylic paints.
