The engine, transmission and fuel tank have been replaced by three large energy storage units containing lithium-ion cells and are protected by a steel-plate battery housing with integrated liquid cooling system. Keeping the batteries cool helps to increase the range, while the steel plates help the ActiveE to meet safety requirements.

The 102EX also lets owners charge the cars wirelessly via electromagnetic induction with the use of a pad that could be positioned under the vehicle.

This would be the perfect vehicle for Lithium Titanate batteries. These are being used in EV racing, but are still too expensive for mainstream EVs. With these batteries, this car could boast 10-minute recharging, and a much better driving range. source: consumerist.com
