A bold new energy trading model

The current situation in South Africa shows that the central model of electricity generation does not encourage the adoption of capital-intensive large-scale renewable energy sources. Instead, we argue that the development of DER distributed micro generation should be pursued.

To facilitate the proliferation of distributed generation, a common energy trading platform is proposed. Smart electricity meters at each property will be payment-enabled.

(as found in ‘chip and pin’ payment cards).
