Internet down in Egypt, old technologies help protestors

What you will need is:
- Regular Mobile Phone with Bluetooth.
- Computer with Bluetooth Dongle or any of laptops that has built-in bluetooth capability.
- Remote ISP number, username and password which I will provide at the end.
For simplicity I chose windows Vista (or XP) steps and I didn't put steps for other operating systems.
Steps:
1- Turn on the bluetooth on your phone.
2- Switch on bluetooth detection on your laptop.
3- From Start menu->Run and write this command: telephon.cpl (there is no "e" at the end of telephon)
4- A window will popup, if it asks for area code just write for example: 757 in united states.
5- Choose "Modem" tab from top.
6- Click Add button then click Next for automatic detection of your phone
7- If your phone is bluetooth modem-capable it will appear in the list, choose it.
8- If it requires a pass key just write "123" for example and on your phone it will ask the same question so press "123" or the same number you chose and finalize the pairing.
9- Now it is supposed to say "Already connected" beneath the icon of your phone, right-click on the icon and press properties.
10- A window will appear, in Services tab make sure that the "Dial-up Networking" is present and enabled (checked).
11- Press ok and it will turn you to the first window and now you will see your phone appearing in the modem list.
Your phone now is connected as a modem to your computer...you are doing great so far.
Phase 2: Dialing up a remote ISP.
I chose a website that provides numbers to remote ISPs in the US. I signed up with:

Also you can dial to the UAE using the phone number +971 500 5555. This is a number for the ISP Etisalat. No ID or password needed.
And one more: +46850009990. user/pass: telecomix/telecomix
I chose the first one and it worked for me.
1- From Start menu choose "Connect to"
2- From the window choose "Set up a connection or a network"
3- Choose "Set up a dial-up connection" then press Next.
4- It will ask you which modem to choose to establish the connection CHOOSE YOUR MOBILE PHONE MODEM, usually it is "Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link"
5- A window will appear in Dial up phone number put 001 + the phone number from the list above. (ex 0018582373733)
6- Username and password I provided and feel free to register new ones at any free ISP site.
7- It will now try to dial and connect to your phone, your phone will ask for confirmation, you agree.
8- It will establish and test your connection.
You can now use your browser and connect normally, but beware:
1- THIS IS AN INTERNATIONAL CALL, THIS WILL COST PROBABLY ~2LE A MINUTE.
2- THE LOAD ON THE ISPs REMOTELY IS HIGH, SO CONNECTION WILL BE VERY SLOW AND SOMETIMES BLOCKED, SO I ADVICE TO MAKE LOTS OF ACCOUNTS ON FREE ISP PROVIDERS.
I hope this was descriptive enough, I am living in the states, I tested it and it works I open "Google.com" from my laptop with no connection except my dial mobile phone. Similar connections could be established using USB instead of Bluetooth, and landlines if you have international capability.

Fax machines, ham radio and dial-up modems are helping to avoid the net block imposed on Egypt.
Dial-up modems are one of the most popular routes for Egyptians to get back online. Long lists of international numbers that connect to dial-up modems are circulating in Egypt thanks to net activists We Re-Build, Telecomix and others.
ISPs in France, the US, Sweden, Spain and many other nations have set up pools of modems that will accept international calls to get information to and from protesters. Many have waived fees to make it easier for people to connect.

Ok, it may sound crazy but I think I found a possible solution to connect to the internet even through the cut off. The solution is by going back to the basics, So instead of connecting to the local Egyptian ISPs (Internet Service Providers) we will try to by pass it and connect to REMOTE free ones via the phone network. We will utilize the same way that was used in the past, when the internet was provided through dial-up connections and 0777 numbers. I will try to make this post as simple as possible and in simple non-scientific terms and step by step which I tried myself.
Manalaa blog gave advice about how to use dial-up using a mobile, bluetooth and a laptop. It noted that the cost of international calls could be "pricey" but said it was good enough for "urgent communication". The advice was posted to many blogs, copied and sent out by many others.
