You have been assigned to a planning commission in charge of renovating an inner-city area. Currently, the area is overrun with crime, substandard housing, failing businesses, and a rapidly declining population as a result.
Your planning options and budget are unlimited but should include the use of incentives to encourage new investments in the area and new residents.
Develop a plan that involves at least 5 renovation ideas dealing with any of the issues listed below (in other words, how specifically will you improve the following?):
You can do a written description of the “before” and “after” where you explain how you plan to improve the area. Or you can do it in the form of a “before” and “after” sketch of the area where changes are labeled and a brief explanation is given. For example, a renovation could be to plant trees or gardens in vacant lots to provide ecosystem services to improve the community. Each renovation is worth 5 points. Renovations beyond 5 are extra credit.
The following terms MUST be included: urban, infrastructure, ecosystem services, urban growth, urban crisis, open space, environmental benefits.
Highlight, underline, or number your renovations.
TWO incentives MUST be included to get people to go with your plan.
Be SPECIFIC in your descriptions.
