GENERAL LAB INFORMATION AND MATERIALS
AP Biology Inquiry Labs:
Intro to Inquiry - here we will execute our first inquiry lab, designing experiments to test abiotic factors on the hatching of brine shrimp.
Animal Behavior - taxis and kinesis will be examined in meal worms under varying environmental conditions
Diffusion and Osmosis - we will examine the net movement of water across a semipermeable membrane given various cellular environments
Photosynthesis - the rate of photosynthesis will be measured using spinach leaf discs
Chi Square - we will learn and practice the technique in a simple statistical model
Virtual Fly Lab - we will examine patterns of inheritance in drosophila as a model system
Bacterial Transformation - we will apply basic biotechnology techniques to transform bacteria to express pGLO (glow in the dark!) DNA.
BLAST Lab - we will use sequence information from multiple species and bioinformatics software to test hypotheses about the relationship between aquatic mammals and their potential ancestral relationship to land mammals.
Transpiration - we will investigate the effects of various environmental conditions on the rates of transpiration in plants.
Circulatory Physiology Lab - we will examine the effects of various parameters on heart rate and blood pressure.
