Cell Membrane Poster
Reference: Campbell (9th Ed.) pages 120, 127
Using colored pencils and/or markers, SKETCH and COLOR the cross-section of a cell membrane onto a large piece of poster paper. In your drawing, you should INCLUDE and LABEL the following:
Extracellular side of membrane
Intracellular side of membrane
Phospholipids
Integral protein
Peripheral protein
Fibers of ECM (collagen, fibronectin, proteoglycan complex)
Microfilaments of cytoskeleton
Cholesterol
Glycolipid
Glycoprotein
Simple diffusion of a substance
Facilitated Diffusion:
o Channel protein (with example of a specific substance passing through)
o Carrier protein (with example of a specific substance passing through)
Active Transport*:
o Sodium-potassium pump (show Na+ and K+ in drawing)
o Proton pump (show H+ in drawing)
Cotransport of sucrose-H+
On the back of the poster, LIST and DEFINE the 17 terms that are underlined.
