Inhibitor is an additive that is mixed with oil to prevent oxidation of the metal and paper components under oil inside the transformer tank. The most popular is Butylated hydroxytoluene (NIST, NEXTBIO) Inhibitors can be added by simply pouring it into the transformer tank while it is de-energized.
