Biblical Truth: God’s covenant with David pointed to the eternal reign of David’s descendant, Jesus Christ.
Context: We have studied how God established His covenant with Abraham, Moses, and the people of Israel. This lesson follows the next expansion of the covenant. God promised David that his kingdom would endure forever and his descendant would rule over Israel. Also in this renewal of the covenant, God pointed to the eternal reign of Jesus Christ as ruler over His people. Thus, the covenant relationship with God that had grown from a person to a people now grew to include a kingdom.
