Biblical Truth: God rescued Noah from His judgment through a covenant relationship.
Context: The last two lessons focused on Adam and Eve breaking covenant with God by disobeying Him. God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and life became much harder for them. This lesson skips forward several hundred years. During this time, humanity’s sinfulness continued to increase to the point that God was sorry that He had made humanity. The world had become so marred by sin that God decided to destroy everything except Noah and his family. Though he lived in the midst of a sinful generation, Noah walked with God. God chose Noah because he was righteous and blameless and had an intimate relationship with God. Remember that God initiates covenants with people. Genesis 6:9–22 gives the account of God choosing Noah for a covenant relationship.
Learning Goals:
To understand that Noah’s faith in God helped him to walk with God when no one else did.
To apply your understanding of walking with God by identifying ways you can live out your faith when surrounded by sin.
