Baseball All-Star Combine
2008 Patterson Park All-Star Teams (Minor Division A&B)
The purpose of this Combine is to assess each players skill level to determine who is the best in each position in our League.
Assessment Skills 5 Players Max per station
General
Throwing Drill - Have 1 player stand at a single point with each player in line catching the ball at 20 Feet, 40 Feet, 60 Feet & 80 Feet. Have a coach running the drill throw to the player under review then they will throw to each player increasing the distance with each throw. Another coach will Judge based on speed and accuracy. Catch or Error How tall of a rainbow affect scale 1-5.
Catching Drill - Another Coach will be working with the throwing drill and watch for the following:
1. Athletic Position Y/N
2. Glove ready to catch the ball Y/N
3. Fear of the Ball Y/N
4. Catching technique 1-5.
5. Moving Body to Adjust to the Ball 1-5.
Infield Drill - Have 1 Player at each position C 1B 2B SS 3B. Coach running the drill will Call out the play before putting the ball in play randomly. Each player will get an opportunity at each position to make the play. The evaluating coach will document if each player knew what to do Y/N. Were they able to execute the play Y/N. Those not involved with play will get a free pass. Each player will get an opportunity to play each position.
Outfield Drill - Have all five players spread out about 10 yards apart. The Coach running the drill will throw each player 3 kinds of balls. One behind, One to one side and one in front. The player will be graded on
1. Athletic Position Y/N
2. Glove ready to catch the ball Y/N
3. Calling the ball for themselves Y/N
4. Adjusting Body to get into Position to catch the side Y/N
5. Adjusting Body to get into Position to catch Behind Y/N
6. Charging grounder Y/N
Batting Drill - Have a pitching machine or a coach tossing balls from the side set up another field . Have one batter ready to go. One batter warming up. Three other batters snagging balls in the outfield and rolling them back in toward the pitcher. The coach running the drill will be at the pitchers mound feeding balls. Each Batter will get 7 Balls to hit. Another coach will be on the following:
1. Athletic Position at the plate
2. Setup Relaxed and ready
3. How many balls hit and on the following scale
0. Strike looking
1. Strike Swinging
2. Foul
3. Bunt
4. Ground Out Infield
5. Pop Out Infield
6. Line Drive Infield
7. Pop Up Outfield
8. Near the Fence
9. Over the Fence
