LIEUTENANT GERALD LEWIS BRINTON was born in Kidderminster in 1905 and was killed instantly when his airplane, the Supermarine S6-A, which held the world's speed record at 357 miles per hour, crashed into the sea at Calshot, England on the 18 August 1931, aged 26. He was the youngest member of the British Schneider Cup Team. It was his first flight in an S6 and was the eighth Schneider Trophy pilot to be killed in practice. The plane slid along the surface of the Solent until it reached a speed of approximately 200 mph. It lifted above the water for a second before dropping back down and crashing.
