HOWARD ERSKINE DAVIES was born in Toorak in 1882 (19774).

He married 11 DORIS KATE KEKWICK [1374] in 1915 (11245). Doris, daughter of Daniel Jefferis Kekwick and Alice Kate Scales was born in Cheltenham in 1891 (1898).

Howard enlisted in the Army on Wednesday 16 February 1916. service no. 2634. At this time time he was aged 34 years and 4 months old. His description says that he was 5'7'' tall (170cm) and weighed 10 stone 2 pounds (64 kg) with sallow complexion, brown eyes and black hair, His religion is given as Presbyterian.

Howard was sent overseas to England for training per the 'Nestor'" on the 16 November 191?, eventually proceeding to battle in France on the 30 December 1916 per'SS Princess Clementine'. He was a Private with the 58th Battalion but did various acting roles at other ranks, including Acting Corporal. Howard was shot in the field on the 12 May 1917, receiving gunshot wounds to his hands, left shoulder and left leg, (The leg was shattered). He was sent to the 3rd Canadian General Hospital in Boulogne, France on the 23 May 1917, where the leg was amputated. Howard succumbed to his injuries on the same day. He was buried by J.E. Adams CF, attached to A.P.C. Boulogne at the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery - Plot 4 Row B Grave 38. (This position originally Plot 4 Row F Grave 114 but the cemetery was renumbered, so the grave is the same but the numbering was altered).

At the time of Howard's death, his wife was living at 1 Erice Avenue, East Malvern. They had one child.

Doris died at Glen ?, Victoria in 1958 (75/ 1959), aged 68.
