02.  Alexander Angus of Raw House [3]

INTRODUCTION [1]

ALEXANDER ANGUS, some sources claim he was born at Tantallon Castle, East Lothian, Scotland.

Married. ? TAYLOR, Abt. 1589, Broomley, Northumberland; b. 1564, Broomley.

Images from the 'Pedigree of the Angus family' compiled by the Reverend Richard Pengilly [to see an enlargement, open the image in a new tab or save the image- it is a jpeg- and look at in a picture viewer.]

[NB Pengilly refers to Archibald as the 9th Earl of Angus, but the 9th Earl was William Douglas and Archibald was the 8th Earl of Angus dying in 1588, so it was probably this Earl with whom Alexander fled.]

"The History of Northumberland" by John Crawford Hodgson has listed tables of the tenants of Bromley for various years

In 1570 Alexander Angus has 1 tenement called the 'botehouse' on a 21 yr lease dated 24th September 1566 and the rent was £0/13/2.

In 1576 & 1595 he is still listed at the 'botehouse' with 14 acres and rent still 13/2

in 1608 he is still listed at the 'botehouse' by letters patent dated July 18th 1595 and the rent is still 13/2 and value beyond rent is 35/-.
