The Philippine Carabao Center at Cagayan State University is simultaneously conducting R4D projects in different locations in Region 02. This is to further develop milk production and marketing of different Dairy Cooperative beneficiaries of these projects and also to improve milk collection and quality.
The first R4D project was the established research linkages with PCC-SEARCA of the project called, "Strengthening the Milk Testing Facilities of Selected Dairy Cooperatives in Region 02". The beneficiaries of this project are, a) Namnama MPC of Sampaguita, Solana, Cagayan, b) Integrated Farmers Cooperative (IFC) of Namabbalan, Tuguegarao City, c) San Agustin Dairy Cooperative (SADACO), and the d) Cagayan Federation of Dairy Cooperative (CAVAFEDCO). This project aims to put up, if not to improve the milk testing facility of all the mentioned cooperative beneficiaries.
Another project is a PCC-DOST joint project entitled, "Fabrication of Mobile Stainless Milk Storage with Milk Test Kit for Milk Collection and Transport". This project was funded by DOST Region 02 and was also approved for implementation this C.Y. 2016.
The equipment support of various agencies is aimed to accelerate the milk collection in the field, reduce milk spoilage and losses and also lengthen the shelf life of raw milk and processed milk products.
These projects of PCC-CSU joined with the other agencies will strengthen the skills and also improve the confidence of the people of the cooperative in performing their routine tasks. It will also encourage them to improve and develop their products in the market.
