"Bull breeding is easy as long as you have the right strategy," said Mr. Mario S. Laddaran when asked about his best practices as a bull handler. Being a resident of Quibal, Peñablanca, Cagayan all his life, he has become well-known to his community and was appointed as one of the Barangay Police (Barangay Tanod), which he later make use as his privilege to advertise his bull. "Being a Barangay Police, it is mandatory to attend every meeting held in our barangay specially the Quarterly Barangay Assembly Meeting and I always make sure that I got the privilege to announce to everyone that I have a bull free for breeding services in the condition that they have to pay a certain amount for every calf drop bred by my bull," said Mr. Laddaran.
The bull was loaned to him by PCC-CSU last December 2, 2010 in which he describe it as very wild. As a handler, he said that he never trained the animal on field works in order not to affect its breeding capability and also not to injure the animal. He then explained that bull is his responsibility and it is his sole accountability in case something happens to it.
Feeding of the animal had never been a problem to Mr. Laddaran due to the vast grass lands that surrounds their community. The farmer explained that he do not have any special diet in feeding the bull but he always make sure that it is well fed and well provided with fresh water.
Extra income is highly important for a farmer's life while waiting for harvest time. And for Mr. Laddaran, he did get a lot of extra income from the calf drop of his bull services for he collect payment for each calf.
Indeed, he did a spectacular job in breeding 29 crossbreed calves for the short period of six years.
At present, Mr. Mario S. Laddaran is looking forward to the awarding of the bull to his name after the painstakingly long process of monitoring and validation of calf drop and processing of documents.
