Continuous effort of carrying the mandated functions, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) at Mindanao Livestock Production Center (MLPC) lead by its Center Director- Dr. Cecelio G. Velez met the City Mayor of Dipolog City, Hon. Evelyn T. Uy who desires to develop the carabao and its potential livelihood opportunities, they, together with his Carabao Based Enterprise Coordinator and at the same time the incharge in training and extension and with the City Agriculturist, discussed the possible undertakings and commitment towards the development of the carabao industry in the locality.
The implementation as agreed will be piloted to the six (6) barangays namely: Lugdungan, Diwan, Cogon, Sangkol, Sinaman and San Jose. To take off, assessment was conducted last April 4-7, 2016 through survey of the population of breedable female carabaos simultaneous with the orientation of carabao owners. There were One Hundred Twenty Three (123) farmer-owners who participated in the orientation.
This group of carabao owners will be organized into an association as the target beneficiaries of the program implementation. In line with this, last May 26-27, 2016, the PCC team led by the coordinator of CBED program and the City Agriculture Office jointly conducted the Social Preparation Training. The activity was successful with 25 participants identified as the initial member of the proposed organization. The event ended with the closing remarks of the City Agriculturist conveying a fruitful collaboration ahead as partners of the program.
