The municipality of Tabina in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, previously has been an active implementer of carabao development program in the region. They once engaged in milk collection and home-based processing of their local dairy produce. Along the way and due to change of Local Government Unit (LGU) administration, their endeavor was no longer recognized way back six years ago.
Just recently, the LGU officials headed by the new municipal mayor Hon. Fruby O. Dayondon, expresses desire to revived the effort on what had been started for the carabao development to help the carabao farmers. As a response, the PCC at MLPC team headed by Dr. Cecelio G. Velez together with his CBED coordinator-Ms. Fe Academia in coordination with the municipal agriculture office headed by its OIC Mr. George M. Dofeliz conducted farmers orientation regarding the opportunities of the program and later organized this group of farmer into an association. The identified farmers was coming from the six barangays namely: Abong-abong, Capisan, Mabuhay, Lumbia, Calubay, and Malim as pilot for the initial step.
During the opening celebration of the 55th founding anniversary of the town on August 13, 2016, they launched the Dairy Carabao Development. The event was witnessed by the local officials and invited guests from the province. Among others, the activity includes ceremonial fresh milk drinking, oath taking of officers of the newly organized "Tabina Carabao Raisers Association", Milk Feeding of the 90 pre-schooler and demonstration on dairy products processing.
