This section of the PCC Cross-Regional Learning Website is the online Training Course and Practice Website for Content Managers (CM). A "content manager" is a staff member who is responsible for creating and editing webpages, uploading or deleting files, adding functionalities, improving the layout and updating pages in a website. Content managers report to the site administrators or to the webmaster. In turn, all of them adhere to policies laid down by a designated PCC manager or website policy committee.
The CM role was created during the February 2016 KM workshop in Clark Freeport Zone; they will be designated by their respective Center Directors. Those assigned will be trained via this online training course and thereafter perform their functions on this website. It is expected that each regional center will have two designated and trained CMs.
This course is a practice-oriented online mentored course. Dr. Serafin D. Talisayon, Dr. Eric Palacpac and Mr. Jerome Balaoing will serve as the online mentors. Content management will be practiced using Google Sites and Google applications, which is very user-friendly and free of charge. CMs will start their training on March 28, 2016 provided each CM has his/her Gmail address.
One skill will be practiced in each weekly Lesson. There is no specific time during a week to enter this webpage but you are advised to finish a skill within the week scheduled for it. The Lessons and the skills to be practiced are the following (click each skill to go to the instruction page):
Setting up a comment functionality and managing online discussions
Creating a webpage and inserting needed functionalities or Google apps
Each CM trainee is provided his or her own individual practice webpage. To go to your webpage, click your name in the horizontal navigation bar at the top. Bookmark your individual practice page so that you can quickly return there each time you access the Internet.
The above skills are to be practiced ONLY in YOUR webpage. Do NOT practice them in other pages in this website.
The different functionalities and keyboard shortcuts described in this online CM training course work best on a laptop or desktop PC (Windows). There may be some limitations when using Apple's iPad in particular (e.g., in adding files). Also, for Macbook or iMac users, note that while your Mac has a Control (Ctrl) key, it doesn't function like the Control key on Windows e.g., keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+C to copy text won’t work on a Mac [thanks to Dr. Eric Palacpac for the information in this paragraph].
The steps you will be practicing are specific to Google Sites. For other website platforms, the steps would be different. However, the basic skills you will learn here would be somewhat similar for those you need in other platforms.
