For the 1st Semester of 2016, PCC at USM have conducted various activities under the Carabao Based Enterprise Development (CBED) program such as Estrus
Synchronization, trainings and orientation on CBED Program. The Italian Mediterranean buffaloes dispersed to three associations namely: Braulio E. Dujali Famers Livestock Raisers and Dairy Workers Association in Davao del Norte, Canahay Dairy Farmers Association and Sto Niño Dairy Farmers Association with a total of 50 heads Italian buffaloes were presented for PD, ES and AI. However, out of those animals presented, a low breeding efficiency rate of only 4.16% were attained. There is an evidence that high environmental temperature during the unfavorable breeding season (El Nino) affects conception rate since animals do not respond properly to the treatment using hormonal injection (lutalyse) and the prolonged period of returned heat ranging from 21- 26 days, as recorded.
Secondly, three separate technical trainings were also conducted to the Dairy Farmers Association in South Cotabato. These trainings were conducted in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of the recipients on the improved management practices and technologies in carabao production and management. Likewise, hands-on training on the preservations of forages (silage making) were also conducted in order to counter some future problems in feeding the animals during the dry spell months.
Lastly, the center had targeted two (2) additional associations to be organized for this year in the municipalities of Midsayap, Cotabato and Esperanza, South Cotabato.
All activities were made in coordination to all partners in the program such as the Office of the Provincial/ City Veterinary Office (PVO/CVO) and the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAG).
