A 10-year-old boy with a toothache.

B-Q-1.1 What do you think is the cause of the TOOTHACHE?

B-R-1.1. Anything goes at this point in time in the absence of physical examination findings or other discriminating data.

However, based on prevalence, regardless of age and sex, in the absence of history of trauma, the most common cause is still inflammation and infection.

B-Q-1.2. Does the age of the patient offer significant clue as to cause of the TOOTHACHE? Explain your answer.

B-R-1.2. NO.

B-Q-1.3. Suppose the patient is 60 year old. What do you think is the cause of TOOTHACHE just based on the age?

B-R-1.3. Anything goes. However, based on the prevalence, the most common cause is still inflammation and infection.

B-Q-1.4. Does the sex of the patient offer significant clue as to the cause of the TOOTHACHE? Explain your answer.

B-R-1.4. No.

B-Q-1.5. Suppose the patient is a pregnant person. Does pregnancy offer significant clue to the cause of the TOOTHACHE? Explain your answer.
