ORIENTATION AND INTRODUCTION

GUIDELINES IN STUDYING THE PROGRAM

Dear Learner,

Mabuhay!

Welcome to an experience in self-instruction.

This program has been designed so that you learn on your

own. You can learn at your own pace - as fast as you can or as

slow as you wish. You can choose to study anywhere and anytime.

For effective learning, however, please follow the following

guidelines in studying the program:

1. The program can be studied in any of the following two

kinds of settings:

1.1 Within a hospital where there is a group of

surgical trainees.

1.2 Within a hospital where there is only one trainee.

2. The program contains exercises or activities in a group

setting. This will be applicable to the setting in

which there is a group of trainees. If you are alone

in the hospital as a trainee, try to find ways to

interact with other surgical trainees to maximize your

learning.

3. There may be suggested readings not included in the

course pack. Find ways to secure them to maximize your

learning.

4. Some of the hand-outs or writings are on the topic of

"medicine" and not specifically on "surgery". Go

through them just the same because the concepts and

principles are similar. Just think of "surgery", the

"surgical situation", or being a "surgeon" when you

read anything on "medicine" or "being a physician".

5. I recommend you get hold of a surgical curriculum of the

Philippine College of Surgeons.

6. You must try to follow all the specific instructions to

the letter. If a situation is not applicable to you,

such as a group learning, try to adjust and find ways

so that you achieve the intended learning objectives.

7. Submit all your completed assigned tasks including the

course evaluation to your faculty.

Best wishes!
