Welcome to the Tutorials in General Surgery!
Since this is the first time you are enrolled in
the Tutorials in General Surgery and since you are just embarking
on a project to become a physician-general surgeon, we the
faculty think a program entitled "Orientation and Introduction"
will help you get started.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The general objectives of the program from the faculty's
point of view are to orient, to motivate, to give an overview, to
build a framework, and to lay down the foundation to facilitate
your learning to become a physician-general surgeon.

EVALUATION
There will be no written examinations.
Methods of evaluation will be done using checklists upon
1. Analysis of the final drafts of the project reports
2. Observation on how students performed during the
workshops and small group discussions
The specified learning objectives will serve as the
blueprint for evaluation.
Grading system:
Excellent - Outstanding achievement of all learning
objectives
Satisfactory - All learning objectives are achieved
Needs improvement - Specify the objectives
Please use the attached "Summative Evaluation by
Objectives" form as the steering wheel or checklist in
learning this program on "Orientation and Introduction".
On Project Reports -
They will be evaluated by both peers and faculty.
Initial reports can be done handwritten but should be
legible; in triplicate copies, using either copier or
carbon papers, two copies to be temporarily given to
peers for evaluation and one copy to be submitted to
faculty, for evaluation as well as for file.

Final drafts of reports must be typewritten in short
bond papers; in triplicate copies, all to be submitted
to faculty.
Final drafts must show improvements of the initial
drafts. Satisfactory and excellent reports will be
compiled in a folder labeled "Reference Materials".
Unsatisfactory reports will be compiled in a folder
labeled "Critique Materials."
There will be at least four reports that you have to submit
at the end of the program. These are, namely:
Unit 1 - Summary and Reflection Paper
Unit 2 - Personal Plan on How to Become a Physician-General
Surgeon
Unit 3 - Exercises on Management in Medicine and Surgery
End of Program Synthesis and Reflection Paper
Your faculty may ask you to submit other reports. Follow
their instructions.
SCHEDULE
To be set up by learner in a distance education mode of
training.
To be set up by the faculty in a residential mode of
training.
