1. New Media Icon

Kyle Evans

My new media Icon is Kyle Evans. He is a new media artist, sound designer and performer.

By using art and technology, His work explores the concepts of digital media artifacts, hacking and technical faillures.

The thing what is really inspiring me is that he combines sound, creative coding and old/new technology to create performance-worth installations.

Kyle produced and presented a wide range of tech-art performance and new media installation work throughout North America and Europe.

de/Rastra performance project

By way of building, bending, and coding, the de/Rastra project shows the effects of altering the technological system of a CRT television, revealing the hidden potentials of the technology through the repurposing of its own ability.

In this installation Kyle is using an old CRT-tv to give it a new purpose: producing sound.

Through hacking and exploiting the capabilities of a CRT devices, the technology becomes repurposed as a performative interface, breaking down the device’s ‘consumption only’ nature. The performer is given control over the technology by removing it from the intended application and translating it into an active devic.

Cracked Ray Tube project

Cracked Ray Tube is a realtime audio/video installation, performance, and hardware hacking/digital programming project by  Kyle Evans (Austin) and James Connolly. The installation explores the hidden technology of analog cathode ray tube televisions and computer monitors.
