3. Raise your Voice
Raise your Voice
by Esmée Stouten
Concept
On Wednesday, May 22, the debate between our prime minister of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, and Thierry Baudet, the conservative, Eurosceptic political
party (the largest political party in the polls) took place.
The debate was the final of a week of provocations between the Rutte and Baudet camps. Full of accusations that one would not "dare" which raised the question if the debate would even continue. And with that, media attention was assured for both parties.
Explanation of design
I've made an audio reactive shape that returns the strength of each of the frequency bands in the debate, to illustrate the power of their sound. This is a continuation
of the 'Google Glass TT888' project, because it also provides an extra layer on the existing sound fragment.
Baudet's voice is shown in blue and Rutte's voice is visualized in yellow. I chose
these particular colors because of the European Parliament elections.
The provoked two-way battle made sure that other political parties were sidelined in terms of media attention. This overshadowed the real party leaders for the European Parliament. Therefore, just before the debate, other political parties bought broadcast time to show that there was more to choose from than this 'right-wing' [1]. All
political parties tried to raise their voice.
During the debate, the politicians used their voice to strengthen particular words, sentences or lines. This caused awkward silences as well.
