Camp ‘Akbupore’ 12 Jan. 59

My dear Father

I have written a long letter to my Mother, but in return for yours I must send a few lines.

I am glad you say your eye is better, but everybody else seems to give a bad account of it – how you cannot go out, &c. &c. All right now I hope though.

You mention that someone with a name something like Downs has sent a bill of £5/- against me. I cannot make out the name nor did I think that I owed money in England (except to Wilkinson & one Cave a tailor who is being paid by instalments by my Mother), but it is possible that I do without remembering it.

I got £25 from P&O Company soon after I arrived. I thought I told you. Will you pay Wilkinson & cut it out of my allowance, of which there must be something like a year’s due to me.

I think Decbr. 57 was the last I had paid to Cox’s – all that I got from Cox since I arrived being £11 - 12.

Please write me any news you hear whenever you go there as it seems to me that there is never to be any promotion for us. Everybody is for Purchase now nearly before me, Cochrane, Holroyd, * Lampen, * Saunders *, & I know not how many more.

Love to all from yr affect son

J D Laurie

P.S. Excuse so much shop.
