Mary Margaret Elizabeth aged 31 years

Born 1832, died 1925

Daughter of John Laurie and his first wife, Mary (née Sparkes), who died shortly after the birth.

Married John Riley (1858), but widowed four years later.

Married William Hamilton Roe (1865) who died 1891 and then George Cowell (1892) who also predeceased her.





John Wimburn aged 24 years

Born 1835, died 1912

Served in 4th Kings Own Regiment in Crimea (1855) and Mauritius (1857) on his way to India (1858). In 1862 he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, married Frances Robie Collins (1863) and developed Oakfield on the shores of Grand Lake.

He was appointed Lieutenant General (1881), became an MP for Shelburne in the Canadian House of Commons (1887-1891). Although retaining Oakfield, he returned to England (1889), becoming Mayor of Paddington (1907) and MP for Pembroke


Peter George aged 26 years

Born 1838, died 1912

Educated Rugby and in Germany, joined Jardine Matheson & Co. as an agent in Hong Kong, then Shanghai

Married Emily Anne Smale in Hong Kong (1868) coming home briefly (1871) before returning East to represent Jardines in Foochow. He finally retired to Essex in 1876







Julius Dyson aged 24 years

Born 1839, died 1909

Served in the Crimea as a 15 year-old, severely wounded at Sevastopol. Served in India in the aftermath of the Mutiny, in Afghanistan, India (again) and Ireland.

Married Beatrice Northall Laurie (2nd cousin – 1869) who died 1879. Appointed Colonel, Border Regiment 1886. Married Hon. Gwen Molesworth (1906)






Arthur Henry aged 22 years

Born 1841, died 1872

Educated Harrow, served as a Captain, Saugor Field Division, Indian Army.

Married Matilda Wahab (1866). Shot and killed by a deranged soldier in his regiment.




Alfred St. George McAdam aged 11 years

Born 1847, died 1927

Worked in City of London, lived in Sevenoaks. Married Ellen Catherine Dawson (1871). JP (1897) and CC (1902).







Francis Duke aged 9 years

Born 1849, died 1900

Educated Harrow, Superintendent of Intercolonial Railway, Canada; Mayor of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, married Joanna Archibald. No children.







Helen Marian Agnes aged 3 years

Born 1856, died 1939

Married Charles Bradford-Brown (1882) and lived at 'Domons', Northiam, Sussex. No children.
