Dear Mother

I arrived here (at the Bks) about 5 o’clock this morning, had two hours sleep, & awoke to find out that my servant was ill in hospital.

I find that all the plans are changed. There is to be a draft from each of the 3 Regts. quartered here, we are to send out 2 Capts. & 3 Subs; (2 Lieuts. & 1 Ensign) but all the disappointed ones say that they must send out some more Subs to take the places of the wounded & killed; & about 120 men, which will leave about as many men as there are Offs. of the Depôt 34th.

I was on a Court Martial this morning so that I was only just in time. I have been talking to the Colnl. who says that he is very sorry that he could not send in my application to the Genrl. as there are so many who want the same thing. I could not get an Ofrs ticket as I had no Route to show.

Hoping you are all well & wishing you a pleasant journey to Worthing.

I remain,

Your affect. Son
