Dear Mother
I had hoped to start for England today, as I had a medical board last Monday, but my name has not appeared in Gen'al Orders. I must wait patiently till it does.
It is a very hard thing to walk about after 7 weeks of bed & what is also weakening, the loss of so much blood. But I am getting on very well & go about now with a stick & under the care of my servant who holds my arm.
Talking of my servant, he is a very lucky fellow as I have got him to come home with me, but he deserves it well as he took a great deal of care of me.
We have had the hot wind (Siraoca the name is pronounced) for the last two days. It makes everyone fell ill. I hope I shall not have to go in a sailing vessel which is a two month voyage.
Peter has not turned up for a month or six weeks. He might have written before he went.
With love to all & hoping very soon to follow this letter
I remain
yr. affect son
