Week #1

This week's Tasks : September 8 - 14, 2014

Welcome everyone to Week #1! I have decided to structure this course by week, this way you can complete the required tasks at any point during that given week (DUE DATES ARE ALWAYS AT 11:59 pm on the SUNDAY of that week, unless otherwise posted). Each week I will be listing the required tasks that must be completed by the end of the week. Many of these tasks will require you to submit weekly assignments, complete chapter readings, study guides and accessing the course content (i.e. powerpoint presentations). Students will also be asked to participate frequently in the online discussions and watch 1-2 videos (and take notes). Be sure to follow instructions carefully and keep track of what you are completing. In the following weeks you will be asked to submit assignments and post on the LMS discussion boards regularly. Have a great week and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Please note: Individual assignments and discussion postings will start next week.

1. Read the course outline for the course. Be sure that you are aware of the late penalties for assignments that are submitted past the due date.

2. Open, read and complete handouts / worksheets for the following slideshows. You may complete with paper and pen or you can use your google drive to complete.

a. PPT: Introduction to Earth and Space Science (student handout)

b. PPT: Latitude and Longitude (student handout)

3. Complete both the Chapter 1 Study Guide & Chapter 2 Study Guide - you will need to print this directly or you can complete it using google docs (type out the answers and make your own document). Although I will not be collecting or evaluating the Study Guides directly, I highly recommend completing them as I often use questions directly from these Study Guides. These guides are useful for keeping up with all course content.

5. Start your Video Journal. You are required to take detailed notes on the various informative videos that you will be watching this semester. Some videos you will need to take notes, others you will be asked to answer specific questions. Please follow the specific instructions provided to you in order to set this up. Please submit your weekly video journal submissions to the drop box on the LMS.

6. Online Animations and Demonstrations. Check out this cool site with dozens of amazing visualizations that are related to Earth Science.

7. Watch the following videos and make point form notes in your Video Journal this week.

8. Please visit the Course Lounge on the Discussion page in D2L. This is an area where you can communicate with your peers about the course as a whole and / or discuss other issues related to the course or education in general. Please introduce yourself in the Lounge and tell us at least one interesting fact about yourself.

GOOD LUCK!
