Annual Review Requirements:

  • The Annual Review is available and submitted through Desire to Learn: MSU.

  • It is typically due near the end of April.

  • RCR requirements, detailed below, are part of the Annual Review. However, RCR must be completed by August, and not April.

  • As part of the Annual Review, all students are asked to attend and/or watch at least 80% of the Brown Bag Meetings for the given year (e.g. September 2018 - April 2019).

  • The requirements for First-Year students are different from any year that follows. To see previous examples, click here.

RCR Requirements:

  • As part of the Annual Review: all students must report their completed annual Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) hours (current EPET Handbook)..

  • If you've not yet completed your RCR requirements (regardless of the Annual Review submission deadline), students must complete their hours by August 16, 2019. RCR details are below...

    • First-year students complete no less than five (5) hours. In the years that follow, students must complete three (3) hours annually.

    • This website (RCR OVERVIEW) notes the exact requirements and lists various opportunities to satisfy your annual requirements.

Planning to Graduate?

  • A Few Key Items:

    • You MUST be an enrolled student (in course credit - such as Dissertation Credit) in the term you plan to Defend.

    • Your participation in the College Hooding Ceremony/Graduation is determined by the date you Defend:

      • If you plan to Defend between January 1 and June 30th, you MAY ONLY participate in May.

      • If you plan to Defend between July 1 and December 31st, you MAY ONLY participate in December.

    • You do NOT have to be enrolled in the term that follows your Defense/Graduation while you're submitting your Dissertation to the College for publishing.

    • Last: It is the responsibility of the student to check deadlines and details pertaining to Graduation. Sharon, as well as your Advisor, can be of great help.

  • Checklist Items:

    • Start by applying to Graduate: LINK. This should be in done in the first month or two of the term you plan to defend (e.g. January or February for May Graduation).

    • Next, review the forms for Ph.D. Students here: LINK.

    • Next, rent or buy your regalia via MSU Spirit Shop: LINK.

    • Next, confirm that all details in your Grad Plan are up to date and complete, as best as possible.

    • Next, submit Doctoral Hooding Form at least ONE month before graduation (follow stated deadline).

      • This form is only available through College. Email Sharon or Ayodele.

    • If you want to publicly announce your Defense, you must submit a Notice of Doctoral Dissertation Oral Examination.

      • This must be done one to two weeks prior to the Defense. From is available via PhD Forms above, above.

    • Submit your Dissertation to committee two weeks prior to scheduled Defense.

      • Work with your advisor on this.

    • On Defense Day, have prepared and be ready to submit Record of Dissertation and Oral Examination Requirements Form (available via PHD Forms above).

    • Follow the Dissertation submission guide through the College: LINK.

  • This is not an exhaustive or perfect checklist. There's a helpful guide to follow in the Repository, too.
