PROGRAM EVENT: EPET Student Research Group

Post date: Oct 29, 2013 3:38:31 PM

Hi EPET students,

The EPET Student Research Group will be meeting this Friday (Nov 1) at 1pm in Erickson 133F. This week we are doing a "research interest mixer," so we will briefly introduce ourselves and our research interests, then break into interest-based groups to further talk about our research interests and how they are related (or unrelated but interesting!). Stop by for some lunch and networking with your fellow EPET students.

Last Friday, we discovered that some or all of the first-year students are not on the ANGEL mailing list. This is supposed to be the official list for announcements, so it looks like someone forgot to update it at the start of the year. I've been sending out messages via this ANGEL list, so if you are a first-year student you may have missed all of these. I'm so sorry if that's happened to you!

So, here's a recap of the two things I've been emailing about this semester: the EPET Lounge and the EPET Student Research Group:

1. The EPET Lounge is emerging as a great way to keep in touch with other students in the program improve our community. It also has the most up-to-date list of EPET-related sites in its sidebar. Join it here so you can stay in the loop. We are trying to get all EPET students in the Lounge so we can use it for announcements (instead of, for example, the ANGEL list that was missing people). Please take a moment to join it if you haven't yet.

2. The EPET Student Research Group meets every Friday at 1pm. Specifics will be announced each week via email, and in Event items posted to the Lounge (which have email reminders of their own). There will be food at each event (yay!) and we are doing a weekly rotation between research-related topics, program/mentoring-related topics, and informal mingling/networking.

3. Check out the agenda document for the EPET SRG. In this document, we will plan meetings, brainstorm future meeting topics, and take notes during meetings. (As with the Lounge, it is student-only so you'll need to request access.)

4. There are many more things going on, resources to find, and way to get involved. For now, the best ways (that I know of) to keep in touch is to join the Lounge and come to the SRG meetings. Hope to see you there!
