Subject: New "Inside Teaching MSU" Newsletter for Graduate Students and Postdocs - PLEASE FORWARD!

College of Education Graduate Program Directors and Graduate Secretaries:

Greetings and Happy 2014! Below you will find a copy of the first edition of the Inside Teaching MSU e-mail digest. This digest was sent directly to current teaching/laboratory assistants.

I will be sending this e-mail digest PERIODICALLY (no more than twice a semester) to let graduate students and postdocs know about the range of resources available to support their development as teacher-scholars. All teaching workshops for Spring 2014 are included in this issue. Inside Teaching MSU is an on-line network and resource center for MSU grad students and postdocs, “dedicated to promoting teaching excellence through conversations and sharing best practices”. Anyone can participate in this network via Twitter (https://twitter.com/InsideTeaching) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/insideteachingmsu).

In sum my request is …

1. You will see I provide a separate note to your grad students / postdocs right under my signature line. Please forward the text below my signature line (note + newsletter) to your grad students and postdocs.

2. To personally receive these digests in the future, please go to http://msu.us5.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=14ee4f2931e5532fc6808e30c&id=e0d68bb6c7 and sign up to receive Inside Teaching MSU from the list of graduate school e-newsletter options.

I look forward to continuing to support you in your efforts to provide excellent pedagogical training to your grad students and postdocs. Do not hesitate to contact me at any time if I can be of assistance to you, your faculty colleagues, postdocs or graduate students.

Best Regards,

Melissa

Subject: Inside Teaching MSU Email Digest - Issue #1

Promoting teaching excellence through conversation and the sharing of best practices at Michigan State University

Welcome to the first edition of the Inside Teaching MSU email digest. Inside Teaching MSU was launched in September 2013 to support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in their efforts to develop and refine their ability to teach – and promote undergraduate student learning – in the postsecondary context. We want to encourage graduate students and postdocs who are currently teaching (e.g., TAs) as well as those who hope to teach in the future to become actively engaged in this community.

We are in the process of building an Inside Teaching MSU Advisory Board which we hope will include representatives from organizations including the Graduate Employees Union, Council of Graduate Students, Grad Hacker, the Postdoctoral Association, as well as faculty leaders who have a particular interest in the pedagogical development of grad students and postdocs. Please e-mail me directly (mcdani73@msu.edu) if you are interested in participating in the development of this community.

In this digest, you will find a listing (and information about registration) of teaching development programs during spring semester. A full menu of professional development workshops can be found atwww.grad.msu.edu/workshops. We encourage you to attend these events and/or follow the conversation on both the Inside Teaching MSU Twitter and Facebookpages.

All the best for a wonderful semester,
