Finally we crossed into Botswana and the sense of “getting closer to home” was getting stronger. We arrived at our destination, Dqae Qare Campsite, at 12h30 and our immediate sense was “not well run” as there was litter in the parking area and the litter in the “service area” was visible. No-one was at reception and some Bushmen came through to say that the Receptionist would arrive later and we could go to the campsites.
On arrival at the campsite, the rubbish bins were full. Lynne headed for the ablutions to inspect them. Within minutes she returned and said “we are not camping here. The ablutions are filthy.”
We headed back to Ghanzi to look for another camp site. We found Thakadu Camp which is about 5km South of Ghanzi.
Lynne did her routine camp inspection and ticked at least 3 of the 4 boxes and said “this is fine”.
Lynne’s campsite checklist includes:
1) Neat campsite
2) Clean ablutions (shower, toilet and basin)
3) Electrical point
4) Water point
It rained during the night and kept it cool so we had a good night sleep.
