I would love to spend more time in the Savute Park but the heat, sand & insects were getting to Lynne. We headed for Namwi Island Lodge near Katima Mulilo in Namibia. The border crossing was very easy and the officers were very friendly.
The camp sites are terrific with paved areas for the caravans and water and electricity at each site and lots of grass and trees. We camped on the river side and enjoyed terrific sunsets.
We were fortunate to see water lizard and an otter.
We went to Katima Mulilo to stock up and decided to visit Baobab Tree Café for a double expresso. It was the worst expresso I have had and then they wanted to charge ND80.00 (Namibian Dollars) for a double expresso. I got them to reduce the cost but I still felt ripped off.
Namwi is so nice that we decided to stay 3 nights.
On Friday we drove 130km to the Susuwe Triangle along the Kwando river to visit Horse Shoe Bend. There is a lovely camp site on the Kwando River. I do not think one would be able to access the camp site during the rainy season as it is surrounded by water ways.
We saw very little game while driving through the park. The remains of the old South African military base can be seen – They selected a spot with a beautiful view of the Kwando River.
The Horseshoe viewpoint is fantastic as it appears that this is where game like to refresh and have a drink. If I were camping close by I would happily have spent hours here watching the coming and going of wildlife.
On Saturday, 25 November, I decided to attempt my first “real” fishing experience at Caprivi Houseboat Safari s. This is a very quaint operation and a place worth visiting.
While I did not land any fish, I did experience the thrill of hooking 5 Tiger Fish and reeling them in to lose them at the last minute …… Inexperienced fisherman.
Koot, the skipper, managed to catch a 2.5kg Bream which we released back into the river.
