We packed up and had breakfast at the Nata Lodge before setting off to Maun.
We stopped off at Planet Baobab for tea and cake and to view the camp sites before continuing on to Maun.
We arrived in Maun and filled up with Diesel. I believe you should always keep the tanks full as you never know whether the next station will have fuel. We met Mac the vehicle recovery person who inquired on our travels and gave us some recommendations. He reported that there has been some break-ins at some of the camp sites so we should be careful and alert. We decided to change our plans and went to the Sedia Hotel camp site as they are one of the few places that employed security staff to patrol the camp sites day & night. We secured a nice camp site looking onto the Thamalakane River.
We were privileged enough to sit in our chairs and view a large variety of birds including The African Fish Eagle, Openbill, Kingfishers etc.We spent Sunday relaxing and stocking up our groceries. Lynne put her washing machine into duty and did the washing.
One thing to be careful when doing washing is to make sure the clothes are either tumble dried or ironed to make sure that any possible Putsi Fly eggs are killed. Otherwise, the they hatch and burrow there way under your skin and form an apses. When the apses pops, out comes the lavae - Disgusting.
On Monday we drove to Blackpools in the Moremi Game Reserve. It took us two hours to get to the South Gate to enter the park. The gravel road was not great and limited the speed. We saw a variety of animals and bird life.
274km Moremi game drive in Land Rover.
We investigated a possible flight over the delta but felt that USD$1,000.00 per person was a bit much for a 1 hour flight.
We met two ladies (Spanish and Columbian) where were also touring . They asked if we would like to join up with them as they could get tickets for Pula600 per person direct from the airline if they could get 6 or more people together.
Lynne does not enjoying flying, especially in small planes. She realized this was a once off opportunity and joined us on the flight.
On Tuesday 14th October we took flew over the Delta. It is an awesome sight to see the delta and animals from the air. It provides a whole new perspective. We saw large herds of elephant and buffalo.
We were fortunate to see 3 rhino. The Pilot had only seen rhino on 3 previous occasions in her 12 months of flying in the Delta.
