The drive to Kukonje Island was longer than expected due to the gravel road.
We had to stop once to confirm that we were on the correct road.
Eventually we arrived at the control gate - As it was abandoned, we let ourselves through the two gates and continued along the vet fence to Kukonje Island.
We setup camp to have a nice view looking onto the Pans. We used the caravan shower for the first time and enjoyed a lovely moonlit shower with hot water - Luxury.
Later in the evening, Micheal, the control gate keeper arrived on his bicycle. It was dark and I asked about the Lion. He confirmed that they had already left the Island, however he did warn us that we should look out for Hyena.
The temperature was 50C in the shade and the flies were a nuisance. After a strong dose of Peaceful sleep, we got the better on them. As there are no facilities on the Island, we had to be totally self sufficient. Luckily we had enough water for a nice hot shower under the starry sky.
The island boasts some large baobab trees.
How many stick insects can you see?
