A thunderstorm woke us at 05h00 and we decided to pack up and start our drive from Mahangu to Rundu, our next destination.
Approximately 30km from Rundu, George the Land Rover decided to provide less power so our speed was limited to 80km/h. We stopped to drain the fuel filter, but it did not help. I spoke to Mark Taylor, my Land Rover specialist at home, who also felt the first port of call was the fuel filter. We continued to Rundu and found out that Kavango Mechanical Services where the only company that new how to spell Land Rover. It appears that this is Nissan & Toyota territory. Chris, the owner, and I decided that the first possibility could be a dirty fuel filter. He also recommended we stay at the Hakusembe Lodge while we waited for new Fuel filter to be couriered from Windhoek.
The new filter was installed and there was no improvement. After contacting Jan at Land Rover Windhoek, he suggested that we try and make our way to Windhoek where they have the proper diagnostic tools. This means we will miss Etosha.
We have a terrific camp site on the Okavango river with it’s own private ablutions, patch of green grass, water & electricity. We sat at the bar at the Lodge and watched the river life and tourists come and go. Angola was across the river and the locals were washing their clothes and themselves obviously not worried about the hippo and crocodiles in the river.
