Off to an early start at 07h15 even though we only had to travel about 168km. The challenge is the last 78km from Kachikau to the Savuti Camp site which is a track road with thick sand. By dropping all the tyre pressures to 1.5bar, we experienced no problem towing the Oryx Caravan through the thick sand. The 78km took 3 hours.
The ablutions and camp sites are elephant proof so they cannot break the water pipes to access the water.
If we visit Savuti again, we must book camp sites CV01, CV02, CV03, CV04 or CV05 on the river.
After setting up camp, we headed off to see the rest of the park that included the
Baobab Gallery.
We saw a range of wild-life but were extra fortunate to see a pack of
Wild Dogs and briefly saw a Leopard for a split second before
disappearing into the bush. The park along the river is a
beautiful paradise with grasslands littered with wild animals of
all sorts. We had to make one river crossing which had Lynne sitting
on the edge of her seat.
We got back to camp and as night fell while making dinner, elephant
walked past to visit the river.
Hyena made calling noises most of the night but we never saw them.
