Originally from Arkansas, Morton, 37, completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Central Arkansas in 1996. While he earned his Master of Fine Arts in painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Morton also worked as a mural artist with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program before moving to Pittsburgh in 2001.
From 2003 to 2007, Morton helped create and administrate the Sprout Public Art Program, a nonprofit organization that utilizes local artists to paint community murals throughout the region. From 2007 to 2009, Morton worked as an art consultant for Pittsburgh Citiparks, and an instructor at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Currently, Morton works as the Public Art Manager for the Department of City Planning of the City of Pittsburgh. The Public Art Manager maintains the City’s public art collection, works to identify and promote public art opportunities within planning projects, and is the staff person for the City’s Art Commission. morton.brown@city.pittsburgh.pa.us
