Laura Gething, Communications Manager

Laura Gething is the Communications Manager at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.  The primary responsibilities of her position include writing and managing production for the zoo’s print and web advertisements and broadcast commercials.  Additionally, she maintains the Zoo’s website and social media.  Laura is the Editor for the Zoo’s magazine publication, ZooExplorer, the annual calendar, and other print materials and external written representations of the Zoo.Laura graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Media Arts with a concentration in broadcasting from Robert Morris University.  During her undergraduate studies, she studied abroad in Managua, Nicaragua.  She is currently working on a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and is scheduled to graduate in May 2013.

Prior to working at the Zoo, she worked at WPXI-TV Pittsburgh for five years.  During that time, she worked in both the Creative Services and Programming departments and performed tasks such as editing, writing, shooting, providing technical support for broadcasts, and associate producing.  She also held a position at Carlow University as Communications Coordinator for two years, which entailed creating media and managing internal communications for the university.

Laura won the Gold Award, a national award given by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, for a package she produced for a local segment of the MDA Telethon in 2008.
