Since October 2007, Ed’s role is the Director of Advertising for Pittsburgh Magazine. In this capacity he is the second in command to the publisher of the magazine. Ed’s responsibilities are for both strategic and tactical aspects to the entire publishing effort. While directly charged with sales and five salespeople, Ed is also asked to develop, sell, and create products from print to e-media. Pittsburgh Magazine has a staff of 20 people and readership (monthly) of over 340,000 people. The only paid and ABC audited magazine in the region has more than 50,000 subscribers. Pittsburgh Magazine recently celebrated 40 years of publishing and is expanding its audience through both online and events. In June of 2009 the magazine was purchased from WQED Multimedia by a private company or Wiesner Media from Denver. They have asked both Ed and the publisher to continue to manage the magazine and run it very much from the local perspective. Previous to working at Pittsburgh Magazine, Ed was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) ~ his responsibilities were to manage and maintain all of the systems and technical staff within the Information Technology department (including systems for business, advertising, circulation, news, WAN, etc.) for the Tribune-Review Publishing Company. Before that role, Ed was General Manager for launch and the building of the online effort of PittsburghLIVE.com from 1998 to 2004. In 2002, the site was awarded an EPpy for “the best overall U.S. newspaper online service, circ. 100,000 to 250,000.” Prior to that, he was the ad director for Tribune-Review newspapers. Past experiences have been with major publishing companies of Gannett (Display Director for The Courier Journal) and Knight Ridder (Major Account Division manager for The San Jose Mercury News) in Louisville, KY and San Jose, CA. Ed’s career in publishing began in 1984 with Ingersol Publishing in suburban Detroit and southern California. Ed graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He is married, with two daughters’ ages 15 and 18 and live in suburban Pittsburgh, PA.
