His large-scale sculpture projects often serve as catalysts for neighborhood growth and redevelopment. Downtown Pittsburgh’s “Liberty Avenue Musicians”-a project featured in Dwell magazine creates an architectural facade, a gateway courtyard, a modern lofts building and a very people popular land mark. The colorful” Uptown Rhythm” relief sculpture is the featured artwork in Duquesne University’s new development. The art work helps to connect the University to the community and vice a versa through neighborhood relatable themes. In Cleveland the Buckeye neighborhood turned an ugly parking lot into a beautiful pocket park featuring his large scale trumpet man sculpture. In Braddock, James designed and created a mosaic park with the help of local high school students.
