Collaborating, Presenting & Pushing It Further (CADA)

This presentation will walk you through the basics on how to utilize Google Docs (word processing, spreadsheets, forms, and presentations) and Google Groups (online discussions) with students.

As we start the presentation, please do the following:

    • Create a Google Account if they do not already have one
    • Fill out form to get info to share a document with them - Form - CADA Presentation Survey

Part 1 - Google Docs

  1. What is this Google Docs thing?
      • Free, online word processing, spreadsheets, forms, and presentations - accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection.
      • Allows easy sharing, publishing, and collaborating.
      • Also let's you export as Office files or PDFs.
  2. What are the limitations?
      • Have to be connected
      • Can't format as precisely as with Office
  3. What can you do with Docs?
      1. Create and share a document, spreadsheet, or presentation with up to a 100 people.
      2. Collect information and have it feed into a spreadsheet with Forms!
  4. Can you show us some examples?
      1. Documents - AP World History Partner Essays
      2. Spreadsheets / Forms - CADA Survey Results, WH Alumni Info, Project URLs, Parent E-mails (65 Ways to Use Forms)
      3. Presentations - PPT, slideshows, etc
  5. Let's brainstorm, how might YOU incorporate this into your student government class? How could it make them more productive?
      • We're going to jump to this Google Doc really quick to start our brainstorm list. We'll come back to this park in a moment.

Part 2 - Google Groups

  1. Another tool? What does Google Groups do?
      • Allows you to set up and monitor online discussions.
  2. Why would we want to do that?
      • Discussions sometimes extend beyond the classroom walls.
      • You can create a record of discussions and how you reached specific conclusions.
      • Your ASB classes are responsible for a lot of things, this lets them focus on priorities and reference past decisions.
