Doctopus and Goobric

Other than the ridiculous names, these two Add-ons are game changers.

  • Doctopus takes a template you create and copies it to student accounts. You name it, you have control of it, and you can even cut off editing at a specific time.
  • Goobric is a Chrome Extension that then lets you embed a rubric into each students finished document. It also records the scores in the Doctopus spreadsheet.

Steps

  1. Start with a Google Doc template (note sheet, pre-writing guide, blank document with a rubric, etc.)
  2. Create a roster in a Google Sheet that includes the students Google account, name, and period (You only need to do this once).
  3. Run the Doctopus Add-on. Go through the process of setting it up.
  4. Doctopus will generate a copy of the template for each student.
  5. Teacher owns doc and can monitor progress.
  6. Additionally, grading can be done using Goobric.
  7. When finished, give students ownership of the documents.
