On October 23rd and 24th, 2024, the Staff Welfare Committee organized a two-day workshop on "Mindfulness & Bliss" for all teaching and non-teaching staff of MMK & SDM College. The sessions were held from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM each day. The workshop featured Dr. K. Raghavendra Pai, Secretary of the Vedavyasa Yoga Foundation, Mysore, and Smt. P. Pushpa Nayak, a counseling psychologist from Navdisha Counseling Centre, Mysore, was the key speaker.
A total of 35 participants attended the workshop, which highlighted the importance of mindfulness and the creation of a blissful environment in both academic and professional settings. Dr. Raghavendra Pai emphasized that fostering mindfulness can significantly improve interactions and outcomes by encouraging individuals to be fully present and engaged. Techniques such as deep breathing and short meditative exercises were introduced to help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. Additionally, the concept of bliss was discussed, with an emphasis on its role in creating a comfortable and positive atmosphere.
On October 15th, 2024, the P.G. Department of Commerce organized an Orientation Program for the newly admitted I M.Com students. The purpose of the event was to introduce the students to the M.Com course structure, expectations, and the resources available to them throughout their academic journey.
The event began with a warm welcome from Assistant Professor Smt. Amrutha Nayak, who congratulated the students on their successful admission to the program. Dr. Devaki K.K., Head of the Department, provided a detailed explanation of the M.Com academic structure. Librarian Smt. Padma informed the students about the available library resources. The Principal, Prof. Bharathi, delivered the presidential remarks, emphasizing the importance of their academic journey. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Smt. Kavya S. The event concluded on an encouraging note, with the faculty expressing their commitment to supporting the students throughout their academic endeavors.
On October 30th, 2024, the Postgraduate Department of Commerce organized an Inauguration, Investiture Ceremony, and Freshers' Day for MCom students. The event featured Prof. Rajashekar, Chairman of Commerce at the University of Mysore, as the Chief Guest. The ceremony saw the participation of 60 M.Com students and was presided over by Prof. Bharathi N. Coordinators Dr. Devaki K.K., Smt. Amritha Nayak, and Smt. Kavya was also in present.
In his address, Prof. Rajashekar emphasized the importance of leadership qualities, noting that effective leadership often combines soft skills, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking. The event aimed to inspire and equip the new batch of students with the necessary attributes to excel in their academic and professional pursuits.
On October 30th, 2024, 54 III BCA students took a proctored certification exam for a Python course. Ms. Shambhavi N of III BCA earned the CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT - PYTHON FOUNDATION CERTIFICATION. The course covered a range of topics, including the basics of Python, programming fundamentals using Python (split into two parts with assessments), and a final certification exam. This comprehensive course highlighted the students' dedication and proficiency in Python programming, with Ms. Shambhavi standing out for her accomplishment.
On October 25th, 2024, MMK and SDM MMV, Mysuru’s Student Welfare Committee hosted a "Leadership Development Programme" as part of an IQAC initiative. Aimed at all student council members and class representatives, the event featured Ms. Shalini Y., Karnataka State Youth Coordinator of RLHP, Mysuru, as the keynote speaker. She emphasized essential leadership qualities such as self-belief, honesty, time management, patience, and communication skills. Participants, including 38 students, engaged in discussions and activities that highlighted the impact of leadership on democratic transformation and societal well-being, particularly focusing on the environment. The Home Management session on "Gender Equality For Enlightened Society" was delivered by Dr. Hemachandra P N, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Maharani Arts College Mysore. on 18th of October 2024.Sri Hemachandra detailed how gender equality can lead to healthier, wealthier, and more educated society. Students learnt that to build a more equitable society , which leads to creating an environment where everyone can access equal opportunities and is free from bias. Total 174 students benefitted.
Smt. Anitha P Jayaram, NSS co-ordinator of MMK & SDM MMV, Mysore, represented Mysore University for State Level Pre-RD Selection Camp:2024-25 which was held in SDM Ayurveda college, Hassan on 15th to 18th October.
On 24th October 2024, NSS Unit of MMK & SDM MMV organized a special lecture titled "Tobacco Free Awareness" to coincide with Tobacco Awareness Day. Smt. Dr. Shwetha S, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, was the resource person for the event. In the session discussed topics included such as health Risks of Tobacco Use, how to practice quitting and many.
The guest lecture successfully raised awareness about the critical issues surrounding tobacco use and the importance of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Participants left with a better understanding of how to contribute to tobacco cessation efforts and promote healthier environments.
The event was also attended by Smt. Anitha P Jayaram, NSS Coordinator, NSS members and volunteers.
Dr. Wethroe Kapfo, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at MMK and SDM Mahila Mahavidyalaya, delivered an enlightening talk titled "Colours- Appreciating their Role in Microbiology and Molecular Biology Studies" at the Hands-On Workshop on "Microbiology and Molecular Biology organized by Genespy Research Services in Mysuru on October 25, 2024. Dr. Kapfo's presentation highlighted the significance of colors in scientific studies, underscoring their impact on various microbiological and molecular biological processes, leaving the participants enriched with new insights and knowledge.
On October 23rd, 2024, the IT Club of MMK and SDM MMV organized an exciting Interclass Tech Talk Competition for all BCA and BSc computer science students. The competition encouraged students to explore and present on current innovations in computer technologies, such as AI, NLP, and Machine Learning, allowing them to showcase their understanding and creativity in these cutting-edge fields. A total of 19 participants enthusiastically shared their insights and ideas, making the event both informative and inspiring. The top honors were awarded to Ms. M. Varshini (III BCA) who secured the first place, followed by Ms. Sanjana (I BCA B) in second place, and Ms. Harshitha (II BCA A) who took third place. The event was a testament to the students' passion for technology and their ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.
On October 23, 2024, the "Ink & Insights" Club from the Department of English, MMK and SDM MMV was officially inaugurated, featuring Mr. Somanna KC, Associate Professor (retd.) from Maharani's Arts & Commerce College, Mysuru, as the esteemed chief guest.
The club is designed to cultivate a vibrant community of literary enthusiasts, promoting engagement through a variety of activities such as film screenings, literary discussions, critical analyses, and guest lectures. And various other creative endeavours. It aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of both literature and cinematic arts.
During the inauguration, Mr. KC Somanna emphasized the importance of literature and film in shaping critical thought and cultural awareness. He highlighted the club's initiatives, which include a short film competition, reading sessions, debates, pencil sketch competitions, and drama performances. These activities are intended not only to inspire a lifelong passion for the arts but also to encourage interdisciplinary scholarship and creative expression.
"Ink & Insights" strives to be a platform for intellectual exchange, enabling members to explore diverse perspectives and grow personally and academically. The club looks forward to becoming a hub for critical thinkers and cultural ambassadors, enriching the academic environment within the Department of English and beyond.
On October 23rd, 2024, the Microbiology Department of MMK and SDM MMV organized a highly informative industrial visit for III B.Sc Life Science students. The group explored the Organic Research Station in Naganahalli and the Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Kesre, Mysore. This visit provided the students with a valuable hands-on learning experience. They gained insights into the various techniques used to treat sewage water and observed firsthand how grains and fruits are cultivated organically. Such exposure not only broadened their practical knowledge but also inspired a deeper understanding of sustainable practices in microbiology.
Ms. Nidhi and Ms. Thanushree of I BSc, MMK and SDM MMV won II Prize in intercollegiate Poster Presentation Competition on the topic "Bacteriophage Therapy" organized by AMI (Association of Microbiologists of India) in collaboration with St. Philomena's Degree College, Mysuru.
On October 23rd, 2024, the NSS unit of MMK and SDM College organized a heartfelt visit to Belaku Vatsalydhama, an old age home in Srirampura, Mysore. Accompanied by NSS Coordinator Smt. Anitha P. Jayaram, fifteen students spent quality time with the residents, engaging in meaningful conversations and sharing moments of joy. The visit was highlighted by a short cultural program organized by the students, who sang songs and interacted warmly with the elderly residents, fostering a sense of community and bringing smiles to their faces.
On 23/10/2024 Department of Business administration of MMK and SDM MMV organised a Guest lecture program on the topic " Lending operations and types of lending" to I, II and III BBA students by Smt.Vijaylakxmi Hiremath, Manager, Indian Overseas Bank and Sri Jatin Murjain, Senior Manager, Indian overseas Bank, Mysore.
The programme helped the students to understand actually how financial institutions lend various types of loans, lending loans brings great growth to the economy of the country and many scrutiny banks sanction loans to lenders. It was an interactive session where students got insight into the banking sector. The programme was coordinated by Smt.Hajra Begum, Assistant professor, Department of Business Administration.
A Home Management session on "Self Defense and Women's Protection" was delivered by Sri Siddaraju, International Trainer, Okinava School of Self Defense Academy, Mysore on 20th of October 2024.Sri Siddaraju explained how Karate can be a very effective form of self-protection martial art. Students learnt how to deal with confrontational situations using karate art and they developed self confidence and self esteem by practicing karate moves.
A Home Management session on "Character Development and Ethical Values" was delivered by Prof. Prasanna Kumar K M, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Government Women's Autonomous College, Mandya on 20th of October 2024 at MMK and SDM MMV, Mysuru. Mr. Prasanna kumar detailed the characteristics of professionalism as ethics,respect,appropriateness, confidence and so on. Students also participated in a discussion among themself about the characters and behaviour that are important in life .

On October 17th, 2024, MMK and SDM MMV hosted an enriching Home Management session on "Gardening and Terrace Gardening," delivered by Mr. N. Keshava Murthy, Program Executive at Akashvani Krushi Vibhaga, Mysore. Mr. Murthy captivated the audience with his extensive knowledge on the subject, emphasizing how gardening serves as a vital bridge to nature amidst our hectic and urbanized lifestyles. He highlighted the numerous benefits of gardening, such as reducing stress, enhancing mental well-being, and fostering a sense of accomplishment. The session also included practical tips on starting and maintaining a garden, whether on the ground or on a terrace, making it accessible for everyone to experience the joys and therapeutic effects of nurturing plants. A Home Management session on "First Aid, Home Prevention and Remedies" was delivered by Dr. Vedanth M S, Medical Associate, Prerana Hospital, Mysuru on 17th of October 2024. The students learnt to identify proper procedure for a variety of medical emergencies and priorities of casualties. Students practiced the procedure of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as it is a life saving technique.

On October 21st, 2024, the Youth Red Cross of MMK and SDM Mahila Mahavidyalaya organized an insightful awareness program on rabies. Dr. Ashwini Hullatti, a dentist and Master's in clinical research, and the founder of Dogs Protection Trust, Mysore, shared valuable information on the prevention and precautions related to rabies. The event was graced by the presence of Principal Bharathi.N, Youth Red Cross Coordinator Mr. Syed Sadath, and YRC volunteers.
On 15th October, the Department of English organized a special lecture titled "Literature Matters, Life Matters," by Dr. Nataraju G., Assistant Professor, Department of Studies and Research in English at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysore. The lecture highlighted the importance of literature in understanding life and human experiences.
Dr. Nataraju emphasized how literature reflects societal issues, human emotions, and cultural narratives, offering a unique lens through which we can better understand ourselves and the world around us. He used examples from both classical and contemporary literary works to illustrate how literature enriches our moral and ethical understanding, which is crucial not only for students of the arts but also for those in commerce and business.
The engaging lecture highlighted the significance of literature in understanding life and human experiences, offering valuable insights to the audience. Students from 2nd year B.Com and BBA programs attended the session and greatly benefited from the enriching discussion.
On October 18th, 2024, the Department of Commerce organized a guest lecture on "Emerging Trends in Finance." The session was led by resource person Vinod Chandran, CA, and CEO of Mylogic Business Management School, who enlightened the audience on career opportunities post-B.Com and BBA. The lecture was attended by 203 students, along with Prashant Jain H.V., Head of the Department of Commerce, Shivabeerappa M., Head of the Department of Business Administration, and Syed Sadath, Assistant Professor of Commerce.
On October 16th, 2024, final year B.Com 'B' section students from MMK & SDM MMV visited G.J. Engineering, an automobile industry located in Metagalli, Mysore. The visit provided the students with valuable insights into the production processes, die casting, and dispatch operations of automobile parts used for lorries, heavy motor vehicles, and trucks. On 30.09.2024 Career Guidance and Placement Cell in association with Accenture Company organised Campus Placement Drive 2024 - 2025. As part of the drive Accenture company conducted AI based online Assessment test for the students in college Computer Lab. Total 164 final year UG and PG students registered and 140 students attended for the assessment. Mr. Ajith from Accenture was conducted the assessment
On October 15th, 2024, the MMK & SDM MMV Library hosted a book exhibition to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The primary objective was to familiarize students with Dr. Kalam's literary contributions and inspire them to engage with his works. The exhibition showcased a collection of books authored by Dr. Kalam, attracting the attention of 105 students and 13 faculty members who attended and viewed the display.
On October 11th, 2024, The cultural Committee of MMK and SDM MMV, Mysuru hosted a vibrant cultural program to celebrate Ayudha Pooja and Dasara at Payana Vintage Car Museum, Brahmapura, Mysuru. The event featured 69 students from various streams including BCA, B.Com, BBA, and B.Sc., who performed an array of cultural presentations encompassing Classical, Semiclassical, Rajasthani, and Garbha dance forms, as well as dramas titled "Refund" and "Yaachanakoota," Yoga, and Bhavageethe. The drama "Refund" was directed and coordinated by the Department of English. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Vinoda, the Cultural Committee Coordinator, and esteemed committee members Ms. Suprada Jain, Dr. Shwetha S, Mr. Abhishek S, Smt. Brunda R, Smt. Ujwala, and Mr. Sachin from the Department of English. They were felicitated by Payana, Mysuru for their efforts and contributions.
On 10th October 2024, MMK & SDM MMV, Mysore hosted a book exhibition to honor the birth anniversaries of two eminent literary figures, Jnanapeeta awardee Kannada writer Dr. K. Shivarama Karantha and Indian English writer R. K. Narayan. The primary aim of the exhibition was to foster awareness about the rich literary contributions of these authors among the college community. As part of the event, an extensive collection of their works was displayed, drawing an audience of 50 students and 4 faculty members.
A Home Management session on "Love Yourself" was delivered by Ms. Tushara G, Makeup Educator, Evara Makeup Studio & Academy, J P Nagar Mysuru on 4th of October 2024. As she detailed about Step-by-step guide for beginners on how to prepare skin with a CTM routine and use of primer and foundation.The session concluded with debate as to how makeup harms our skin and the importance of makeup..Total 169 students benefited from this session, Sri B N Maruthi Prasanna, Coordinator of Home Management session, Smt Sandhya, Mrs Kavya S N, Mrs Rajarajeshwari R, and Mrs Namratha D, members of Home Management were present in the event.
On October 4th and 5th, 2024, Sri Niranth M R, Coordinator, Entrepreneur Hub and Sri Mahadevaswamy S, Member, Entrepreneur Hub attended the NSRCEL SummitUp 2024 at IIM Bangalore. The event was warmly inaugurated by Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore. Chief Guest Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog, delivered an insightful address on the transformative impact of startups on innovation in India over the past decade. This summit highlighted the crucial role of entrepreneurship in driving the nation’s progress and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem.
An IQAC initiative Intercollegiate International Webinar on the topic “Biozone – Research developments in Stem Cell Biology” was organized by Department of Biotechnology, MMK and SDM MMV, Mysuru on September 30 th , 2024 @ 8.30am IST and the Delegate Speaker was Dr. Andrade Melisa J ,Postdoctoral Scholar, Dept. of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of California Irvine (UCI), USA. The Advisory board members were Prof. Sathyamoorthy, Research director, SDM University, Dharwad and Prof. S R Ramesh, Chief scientist, Mahajanas PG centre Mysore.
The webinar was held in Google meet and YouTube platform. The students and faculties from various institutes acquired information on stem cell therapy and applications and research methods on ability to make induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells in type 1 diabetes, Parkinsons disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, heart failure, osteoarthritis and other conditions. The E-certificate was sent to all the participants post filling the feedback form.
The Principal, Prof Bharathi N and IQAC coordinator Smt Sukrutha K S, graced the event virtually and the program coordinator were Dr. Shwetha S and Shri Abhishek S respectively.
On October 7, 2024, the NSS unit of MMK & SDM MMV organized a guest lecture by Bannuru K. Raju, a well-known columnist and author, to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The lecture focused on Mahatma Gandhi’s morals, his simple lifestyle, and his key role in India’s independence. Raju sir highlighted how people can apply Gandhi’s principles of truth and non-violence in their lives today. The session encouraged meaningful discussions on the relevance of Gandhi's teachings for modern social issues. Smt. Anitha P. Jayaram, the NSS Coordinator, along with NSS members Ms. Prathima M , Ms. Sandhya, Ms. Vaani and Dr. Arun Kumar and volunteers, attended the event. Overall, it inspired attendees to consider Gandhi's lasting impact.

Rajarajeshwari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology.. The lecture explored the health benefits of foods and dietary supplements that extend beyond basic nutrition. The speaker defined nutraceuticals and examined their historical applications in traditional medicine, highlighting their potential in preventing chronic diseases. Key examples discussed included turmeric for its anti-inflammatory effects and probiotics for promoting gut health. Overall, the lecture emphasized the significance of considering food as an essential aspect of medical care. The session was attended by Smt. Anitha P Jayaram, the NSS coordinator, along with other NSS members and volunteers.
On October 8, 2024, the Department of Commerce at MMK & SDM MMV conducted an Alumni Faculty Program on the topic “Non- Profit Organisation” for I B. Com ‘B’. The session, organized by Mr. Prashanth Jain H.V., Head of Department and Assistant Professor of Commerce, featured a presentation by Mrs. Anusha M. R., a teacher at Podar International School, Mysore.
The program focused on the topic of “Non-Profit Organisations.” Key points of discussion included the definition of non-profit organizations, the causes they serve, the functioning of NPOs in India, and the differences between social enterprises and NPOs.
On 08/10/2024 Department of Business administration organised Guest lecture program on the topic "consumer protection Act-1986 and consumerism" to III BBA students by Smt.Rashmi.R, BAL.LLB.LLM, Assistant professor, SBRR Mahajana law college, Mysore.
The guest lecture program about consumer protection act- 1986 and consumerism helped students to understand it is a major legislative milestone enabling consumers to stand up against unfair trade practices and standard products and services. It also provides consumer redressal tiers which is helpful in solving problems of the consumer.
On September 9, 2024, NIE First Grade College, Mysore, in collaboration with the National Digital Library of India Club, hosted an intercollegiate debate competition. The event centered around the thought-provoking topic, “The Future of Libraries: Physical Books or Digital Archives - Which is the Better Choice?” Students from MMK and SDM MMV, Ms. Shambhavi and Ms. Mahima of III BCA distinguished themselves by securing the first prize in the competition.

Today, technology is innovating with new advancements, and artificial intelligence is developing across all fields, stated Dr. D. S. Guru, Senior Professor, Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore. He inaugurated a One-Day National Conference organized by the IQAC and the Computer Science Department of MMK and SDM Mahila MahaVidyalaya on the topic "Artificial Intelligence Revolution: Shaping the Future through Technological Advancements." He emphasized that knowledge and understanding of artificial intelligence are essential today, and universities and research institutions must conduct extensive studies and research while also raising awareness about it. Dr. H. S. Shashirekha, a professor of Computer Science at Mangalore University, delivered the keynote address, noting that in the age of technologies like Facebook and WhatsApp, people are becoming isolated and trapped in their problems, making such fields of knowledge essential. She stated that the artificial intelligence technology, which is a significant marvel of this era, is crucial for effective research that contributes positively to the nation.
After the inaugural session, technical sessions were be delivered by Dr. Thasleema, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Central University of Kerala, Kerala on the topic Parkinsons Disease Detection using Spectrogram and Deep Learning, Dr. Anitha Raghavendra, Senior Data Scientist, Aashaya Designs and Solutions, Mysore on the topic Applications of AI in Agriculture and Dr. Prajna S, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, JSS Science & Technology University, Mysore on the topic Celebrities Cartoon Image Analytics
The event was presided over by Mrs. Nayana Kumari, the Principal of the Pre-University College. During the event the 28th issue of GI talk Newsletter of the Computer Science Department was also released. Smt. K. S. Sukrutha, HoD of Computer Science and the convener of the conference welcomed the gathering and Smt . Ramya S. K. Co-convener of the event rendered the vote of thanks. A total of 150 participants which includes academicians, research scholars and students from across the state participated in the event.
A Book Exhibition was held here in MMK & SDM MMV, Mysore to celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi on 03/10/2024. The objective of the exhibition was to create awareness about the contribution of M K Gandhi to Indian independence. As a part of the exhibition all the books related to him and Indian freedom Struggle were displayed.130 students and 6 faculty members viewed the Exhibition.
On October 1, 2024, the NSS Unit of MMK & SDM MMV, in collaboration with Jeevadhara Blood Bank, Lions Club of Mysore, organized a blood donation camp in room S206. The event began with an address from Mr. Lion Girish, the director of Jeevadhara Blood Bank, who emphasized the significance of blood donation, its positive impact on society, and the fact that a single donation can save up to three patients. The camp aimed to raise awareness about the vital role of blood donation and to inspire students to participate in this important cause. They also recognized and honored those who had donated blood in the previous camp. A total of 20 units of blood were collected from students. Present at the event were Smt. K S Sukrutha, IQAC coordinator; Smt. Anitha P Jayaram, NSS coordinator; as well as NSS members Ms. Prathima M, Ms. Vaani H, and Dr. Arun Kumar, who all contributed to the effort.

The NSS unit of MMK & SDM MMV organized a guest lecture on financial literacy, featuring Mr. Shivabeerappa, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management on October 1, 2024,. The session aimed to provide participants with crucial financial knowledge and skills for making informed financial decisions. Key topics discussed included understanding financial literacy, insurance, achieving financial stability, saving and emergency funds, and the fundamentals of investing. The speaker emphasized that financial literacy is a lifelong journey and encouraged attendees to take proactive steps in managing their finances. Ms. Vaani, an NSS member, along with other volunteers, were also present during the session.
