This years track season is coming to a close, which means that district results are in and state is coming up. This year’s districts was hosted at West Jefferson in Terreton, Idaho. In the 2A Nuclear League Division Districts, we had Firth, Ririe, North Fremont, Salmon, and West Jefferson all competing. With most of are team placing in the top 10, there was a surprisingly low amount of 8 people who get to go to state. We have two from our women’s side and six from our men’s side.
Having only two people representing our women’s track team, there is a ton of pressure on them to perform and do well in each of their respective events. Kayla Mickleberry will be doing the 100 meter dash, since she placed third overall. Megan McConnon will be doing both throw categories, shaving placed first in both discus and shot put. This makes them very valuable to the North Fremont Track team in those specific events.
The other six people going to state are representing our men’s side of the track team. Including Brady Allen, Angel Romero, Corbin Johnston, Zack Johnston, Roy Wynn, and Owen Reid. They will be going to state for triple jump, long jump, relay races, the mile(s), and more in the racing category. The men’s side however does not have anyone to represent them in the throwing category of track and field as a sport. Giving us a huge disadvantage to show our strength.
With how well everyone going to state has done this year and in previous years, our results for state should be quite impressive. With the relay team placing in the top five, we predict that they will be placed third or second. The jumping parts are predicted to be our lowest events, with hope to be placed in top five at least. The throwing events, we are hoping to place in the top five but the probability of being in the top three is much higher. The rest of the racing events for the men and women, we are predicted at being in the top three spots.
