Not much happens in the small town of Ashton, Idaho, but when something does happen it's usually big or unheard of.
The post office was just recently hit on August 10, 2022. The now located suspect said that they couldn't get their foot on the brake in time and they hit the wall only leaving a little scratch on the front bumper. While the post office’s exterior wall looked untouched, the interior wall was pushed 2-3 inches inward. They are still trying to figure out more details of how this could have happened.
The construction happening on main street has been a struggle for everyone. The construction of the intersection consisted of a stop light, new curb, side walks, storm sewer work, and pavement. They are scheduling the work to be completed in October. 2022. They have gotten the right side going out of Ashton paved and starting to work on the left side. First they have to drill holes in the pavement in order to put the TNT to blow up the road. The construction workers will be putting another culvert in, and they will start to put the stop light with the hope that it will make the road move more smoothly.
When they blew up the road it was devastating to our community. Because the road is our mainstreet it is the center of our world. When they blew it up people often found new routes to get to work or school so they could avoid the construction. There were also many many videos posted about when they blew up the road. It was said that they would be done with the road before school started. We have been in school for about a month and they are still not done with the road. We will also have more construction to put in a stop light because it was decided by the town that the town would benefit from it and it may help with the crashes that happen right there. I don't think it's a good idea because our town is so small but it's happening whether people like it or not. But it will take more time. And honestly construction is just annoying.
