North Fremont History
By: Brailynn Watson
Being that North Fremont is the highschool we all attend, it would only be right to bring some attention to its origin. History can be a really cool thing, and our school’s history is definitely worth a read!
The very first Ashton School was established 115 years ago in 1906. Now that’s a long time! Where the current Elementary School now stands, one of the oldest buildings in Ashton lived. That building accommodated grades 1 through 12. That is quite a bit of kids in one school. While the highschool we all attend now was built in 2004, the original highschool building was built way back in 1951. Of which accommodated grades 9 through 12 until 1974, when a new auditorium and 4 classrooms were built to accommodate the 7th and 8th grades. Our highschool now holds grades 6 through 12. While we have a separate elementary building, that holds preschool through 5th grade.
Now let us talk more about how our recent high school came about. In 2001, the patrons of District 215 passed a bond to build our very own North Fremont Highschool. In 2004, 9.4 million dollars later, our highschool rose from the ground up. They built the highschool with an appearance of an H on its side, so that they could separate the highschool and middle school from each other. While our highschool only has around 326 students, we have an auditorium that can accommodate approximately 500 people. That is where all the major assemblies happen.
Our school contains 22 brilliant teachers, very helpful counselors, a great principal, and many other outstanding staff members that keep our school running. Our school would not run as smoothly as it does without the help of all of our amazing staff. A few more interesting facts about our school are that the Average Daily Attendance is around 95.1%, and the Graduation rate is around 95.2%.
I know some of us dislike being at school. Or even hearing about it. But, in actuality it is very interesting to read about the history of our school and how it came to be.
